Rules:
1. The losing reporter for each week's award is selected by searching the Archives of The New York Times on the Web on a convenient day following the week in question. The search criterion is “gold and (olympic or olympics)”
2. Loser is selected based upon the following decision tree: If at least one article during the week in questions carried the byline of a reporter, the loser is the reporter who most frequently misrepresented the Olympic First Place silver-gilt medals as gold medals during the week in question. If more than two reporters should share the dishonor of most frequently misrepresenting the medals as gold, the loser sis the reporter who last lied, based upon the retrieval order of the articles from the Archives search engine under the criterion newest." If two reporters share the dishonor of most frequently misrepresenting the First Place medals as gold, the award, a pair of split crotch panties decorated with flames, is awarded to them jointly.
3. If, during any week, articles misrepresenting the Olympic First Place medals as gold are published, but none has a byline, the “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire Award” is awarded to the Publisher and Editor jointly.
